The Essence of Hokusai’s Art: Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji
Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849)
Katsushika Hokusai, who was active during the Edo period, worked in many fields, such as actor paintings and illustrations for reading materials. He also studied a wide range of Chinese and Western painting techniques, and his landscape paintings using shading and perspective eventually became the “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji,” including the masterpiece “A Mild Breeze on a Fine Day.”
Hokusai’s works have greatly influenced Western artists, and he is still considered one of the most famous Japanese painters in the world.
